Suggested Reading and Websites For Those Needing Support, Information, Legal Advice, etc.

NOTE: The following list is my personal pick of favorite resources which I believe will give you a good start
into further research into the ideas I have written in my book.
These are unpaid and unsolicited
endorsements.
The following links are also part of the growing movement against these atrocious laws!

NOTE 2: If you have any sex offender sites not listed here, email me and if I approve it, I will list it here.
Thank you!

Books and Other Media

  • Handbook for Sexual Abuser Assessment and Treatment” by Mark S. Carich and Stephen E.
Mussack. Safer Society Press, 2001.--The Safer Society Press is one of the premier publishers of
books dealing with treatment of deviant sexual behaviors. This handbook is a guide to different
    treatment techniques

  • The Woodsman” (Video): I know it’s not a book, but it is a very good movie regarding a sex
offender trying to reintegrate into society after prison.

Legal and/ or Informational Websites and Blogs

  • www.geocities.com/eadvocate or www.geocities.com/voicism-index -- Arguably the best website for
all things related to sex crimes, and thus my #1 pick. Includes a model for rehabilitation as well as
news articles, commentary, and legal issues regarding sex crimes. Eadvocate also runs other
    highly recommended sites:

  • www.blueshifthome.com -- Run by another member of my advisory committee, he has a very good
article on the classification process and the various tests (“An Empirical Interpretation and
Application of Ohio RC Section 2950- Sexual Offender Recidivism Factors.”). Though it was written
primarily for Ohio’s risk classification system, the article is very thorough, and breaks down such
actuarial tests as the STATIC-99 and RRASOR.

  • www.operationawareness.com -- Run by another former sexcriminals.com poster and advocate;
writer Amanda Rogers has a knack for finding the dirt on government corruption and
misinformation on a variety of issues, not just sex offenses, and has gotten the attention of more
than a few famous people, like Mark Lunsford.

  • www.ccoso.org/library.php -- The online library of the California Coalition on Sexual Offending;
contains .pdf files of important documents, studies, and legal briefs

  • http://www.ohiojpc.org/main.html -- The Ohio Justice and Policy Center, a non-profit legal
organization fighting sex offender legislation in Ohio and has written briefs in other landmark cases

  • http://cfcamerica.org/: A new national movement whose goal is to provide state specific sites for sex
    offender legal issues

Support Networks and Forums

  • www.soclear.org -- the website for SO Clear media, which orchestrated the "Silent No More" rally in
Columbus on December 2, 2007; a media oriented organization

Victim Support, Info, and Advocacy Groups

  • www.jwrc.org -- Jacob Wetterling Foundation, NOW KNOWN AS Jacob Wetterling Resource Center,
    changed Sept. 2008

Sites with Specific Stories

  • http://www.changingthelaw.com/ -- Another great site with stories dealing with Romeo/ Juliet and
other minor offenses having lifetime consequences on the registry such as online chatting

  • www.rickyslife.com -- See how a teenager having consensual sex with ANOTHER teenager landed
the teenager on the sex offender registry FOR LIFE! WTF?!

Reference Sites for Cyberstalking and Cyber-Terrorism

  • www.ic3.gov: FBI Cybercrimes Unit site, where you go to file a complaint

Post-Release Housing Options
